Chinese driver Zhou wins first sprint 1 race

The Chinese anthem in the Principality: a first to be noted in the annals!

The Chinese Guanyu Zhou (Uni-Virtuosi) won Friday May 21, 2021, the first sprint race of the weekend in Monaco, where the three races of the second round of Formula 2 take place. Qualified only 10th on Thursday but started in the first up thanks to the inverted grid format for this sprint race, Zhou, 21, led from start to finish.

A Mastered race for zhou!

Leader of the championship, the Chinese took off and kept the lead. He had a perfect race without making any mistakes on this complicated Monaco circuit. The only driver capable of putting pressure on Zhou, Lundgaard, gave up on engine failure.

That this circuit had missed! Its magnificent setting, the sea and the palm trees, on this rock facing the sea, the pilots had a smile on their faces this morning. But once behind the wheel for the warm-up lap, tension and focus take the place of emotion. In the alleys of Monaco, the script is almost always written in advance. This race fits into the logic of the circuit as it was the pole man that won.

Starting from the pole, Guanyu Zhou claimed his second consecutive victory, his first in the principality. Thanks to its double, Uni Virtuosi takes the lead in the constructor standings. For his part, the Chinese Guanyu Zhou consolidates his lead in the pilot's championship.

After the arrival, Zhou the winner confided

“It's great to win in Monaco. I think it’s a great achievement for the whole team. To finish with a double as well, that doesn't happen very often in Formula 2, so I'm really happy for them with all the work they've done.

“We had a decent pace today and I was really comfortable up front. Two more races to go and I hope we can move forward a bit and get some important points for the Championship.
