10th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge - 5-8 July 2023

The Monaco Yacht Club, a laboratory for innovations and new energies - « Capital of advanced yachting »
Engaged for many years in the sustainable development and energy transition, the Principality of Monaco welcomed from July 5th to 8th 2023 the 10th edition of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, organised by the Monaco Yacht Club in collaboration with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
This international boat event, unique in the world, is both a sportive and environmental challenge, but also incubator of talents, and has for ambition some technologistic perspectives to promote a new vision of yachting, with a spécific focus on clean energies uses .
While these four days, 31 international universities with about 50 teams from 25 countries competed in severals boat competitions, from prototypes to ahead, with the common objective to test severals alternative energy sources to promote the maritime industry of tomorrow.
The competitions were under three categories :
- In the Energy Class, for the third time, the Italian team from the Bologne University won with their sailing boat Uniboat . This one has a multi-hybrid propulsion with both hydrogen and solar tanks
- In the Solar Class , dedicated to solar energy, the Dutch team with Sunflare did win
- In the Open Sea Class, the British from Vita-Seadog and Vita-Seal won the competition of maniability, and Performance Marine x Evy won the speed race with 34,71 knots
The originality of this event is also on board as the Energy Boat Challenge organised a Work Forum for networking in between the ingeneer students and the yachting professionals, creating specific contact opportunities to answer to the needs of the future maritime industry.
